When I got the performance schedule of the Zhongshan City Cultural and Art Center at the beginning of the year, I noticed the concert of Beijing Jianli Percussion Ensemble. There are not many professional percussion orchestras in China now.

Musical performance can roughly be divided into four categories: string instruments, percussion instruments, wind instruments, and percussion instruments. When people first listen to a concert, they are often attracted by the percussion section, such as drums, Castanets, Xylophone, etc., because string and wind sections evoke a sense of wonder, but percussion allows you to see what is happening directly. In addition, percussion instruments can produce beautiful and amazing sounds, which can increase people's excitement throughout the entire music and drive the music to its climax. Percussion instruments are among the oldest musical instruments. The music of all ethnic groups in the world is basically derived from percussion instruments. Our ancestors used it to pray for a good harvest and celebrate victory. Children's initial favorite rhythms are often tapping and striking. However, if you think that percussion is primitive and inferior, you are absolutely wrong. After watching the performance of Beijing Jianli Percussion Ensemble, you will definitely be excited and intoxicated by their superb performance.
The "Trio of Drums" is a very wonderful performance. Three young musicians, two women and one man, play around a large drum, accompanied by multiple small drums and gongs. Sometimes they echo lightly, sometimes they play in a storm. The three of them play on the same large drum, in different positions, with different rhythms, exquisite coordination, superb skills, and play an uplifting piece of music, which is simply wonderful.
The most praiseworthy is the performance of the Chinese modern music "Opera", which is a classic work by Mr. Guo Wenjing. The three performers present a play full of Bashu charm to the audience with only two small gongs and one cymbal. It is difficult for ordinary people to distinguish between gongs and cymbals. Locals commonly call them "chacha", named after their sound. This is a traditional folk instrument that is very popular in the southwest of China, including Sichuan and Tibet. They form rich changes in intensity and tone color through the collision or friction of different parts of the instrument. The three performers communicate with each other and support each other to express the content of the play through various musical languages such as questions and answers, echoes, help, etc., and then add a dance performance with masks on their heads, as if they are really performing a Sichuan opera, which is very meaningful and full of the skill of a white wolf with bare hands. After enjoying this performance, I think that with more works like this, we will no longer have to worry about the inheritance and promotion of our traditional cultural and historical heritage.
Drums are one of the oldest musical instruments in the world. Different ethnic groups have their own different forms of drums, but different drum sounds still resonate and are loved by modern people to this day. The African Golden Cup Drum Solo "The Rhythm of Heaven" conveys an ancient and sacred sound with only one hand of the performer, accompanied by a rough and simple male voice, giving people a simple and cheerful life!
It is said that the adaptation and performance of world-famous masterpieces is the highlight of Jianli Percussion Ensemble that distinguishes it from other percussion orchestras. The adaptation of literary and artistic works has always been a difficult and unpleasant task. The original works of each masterpiece have formed deep impressions among the audience and produced their own unique resonance. Few people will adapt less-known works. Despite the fact that Jianli Percussion Ensemble has performed many adapted famous songs, they have achieved remarkable effects. The ballet "Red Women's Army" is a world-famous Chinese ballet, which not only contains innovative Chinese-style ballet, but also classic musical compositions. Four young musicians, on a Marimba, adapted and created based on the famous "Happy Female Warrior" of the Marimba. Under the coconut grove by the Wanquan River, the female warrior happily washed clothes and played in the water, which was more light, playful and diverse than the original work, supplemented by the performers' rich body movements and changes in formation, presenting a vivid and interesting picture that echoed between image and abstraction in front of the audience. Schubert's "Carp" is also a successful adaptation. The original work is Schubert's art song. Later, Schubert himself wrote it into a piano, violin and cello quintet, which is Schubert's masterpiece and is often performed by soloists on the piano. The author vividly describes the cute image of the carp swimming happily in the clear stream, and then the scene of the carp being caught by hunters. The author expresses his infinite sympathy and regret for the fate of the carp in a narrative manner, revealing that kindness and innocence are often harmed by hypocrisy and evil. Jianli played with percussion instruments such as Marimba and Xylophone, fully showing the joy and richness of the work.
However, not all adaptations can be successful. I am glad that I did not meet Beethoven's "To Alice" at this evening's concert, otherwise Alice would have been scared away by the noisy jazz drums, and there would have been no romantic feelings. I think it is better to adapt and create based on the characteristics of the original work, and then add the characteristics of the instruments. I believe that with the continuous enrichment of stage experience, their adaptation skills and performance level will definitely improve. Percussion instruments have a long history and cultural tradition, and their changing rhythms not only reflect the characteristics of different ethnic groups, but also bring joy and interest to the audience. The music of the American film "The Spy Who Loved Me", the Japanese anime "Super Mario" and "Cat in the Hat" played by Jianli Percussion Ensemble this evening, in the lively sound of percussion instruments, 007 and Dingdong seem to have also come to the stage. With their vivid and interesting, flexible and changeable performances, the performers will allow the audience to fully appreciate the beauty of percussion instruments. The popularity of the orchestra can be fully proved from the cheers at the end of the performance.
Beijing Jianli Percussion Ensemble, so that people from Zhongshan don't know each other without fighting.
