Master class of Master Feng Sees

On July 21, 2008, Feng Sees, an international master of percussion and professor at Yale University, arrived in Beijing. That afternoon, Feng Sees, despite his hard work, came to Beijing Jianli Percussion Art Center and gave a four-hour master class for the members of Jianli Percussion Ensemble. Feng Sees' mastery of percussion is extremely refined. He pays attention to the musicality of the works and the close connection between the members of the ensemble. He explained to us with vivid analogies: the ensemble is like a group of us skydiving together, if one person does not master it well, everyone will fall to death. He also emphasized that everything we play should be able to be sung, so as to help us master the breath of the piece. The master class ended in a pleasant atmosphere. Feng Sees gave a high evaluation of Jianli Percussion Ensemble and recommended some excellent contemporary avant-garde percussion works to us.
The next day, Feng Sees led his students (that is, Yale University percussion students, one of whom won the first prize in the 2006 Linz Marimba competition) to rehearse at the Jianli Percussion center. On July 23, 2008, with the assistance of the Jianli Percussion center, Feng Sees and his students held a music concert mixed master class at the Central Conservatory of Music concert hall. The response was very enthusiastic, and the concert lasted until 11 p.m. that night.
Feng Se and his students are very appreciative of the development of Chinese percussion music. Of course, they also love China's delicious food culture and look forward to them bringing the beauty of percussion music to us again.
